PROTECTING MINERS -- Chart. This AP digital embed chart shows the percentage of longterm coal miners since 1974 tested for black lung disease who were found to have the ailment. After two decades of declines, the numbers have risen again, most prominently among miners in the central Appalachian region that includes Kentucky, Virginia and West Virginia.
